Salewa Mountain Trainer hiking boot is a good option for light duty hikes in moderate conditions. You have a life outside of work. We work hard and play harder. Fun Friday gear reviews are about great stuff that helps improve our experience. These are unbiased and real world tests from a wanna be adventurist who works more than he plays. I hope you use these posts to define “your own brand of success” outside of work.
SALEWA is an acronym which stands for Saddle And Leather Workman or something like that. The company has its roots in European mountaineering and is famous for quality outdoor adventure products on the other side of the ocean. The brand is not as common in North America which is even more fun when you want to brag to your buddies about your new gear.
From the deep snow of the Swiss Alps to the dusty high desert trails of New Mexico to the crystal clear stream crossings of Southern Colorado, these Salewa Mountain Trainer boots never let me down. My feet stayed warm, dry and blister free. The extended technical lacing system allows this hiker’s narrow heel and wide forefoot a custom fit for each hike.
I hiked across Alpine peaks with snow shoes and thick wool socks and never wished for more warmth from the Salewa Mountain Trainer boots. I walked the hot and dry trails of the Southwest USA in the summer with full breathability. Crossing streams on a day hike in Southern Colorado never caused wet socks. Total comfort is the bottom line with these boots.
SALEWA offers many unique systems built into this boot. Most notable is the “multi fit footbed” which is a genius system of two insoles. Use both insoles with thinner socks for a more snug fit. Remove one sole and use sock linersand thick socks for more room during winter adventures. The boots deliver on the three most important points for hiking comfort:
Lightweight at 640 grams.
Waterproof, well as much as any boot can be.
Breathable, thanks to Goretex layers.
My pals in the Alps love to say that there is no bad weather, only bad gear. If that is true then these boots will definitely help you ignore the weather report and get out there! For good deals on great boots, check out this link.
